On July 5 the Design Review Board approved variances for lot coverage, a reduced street‑side setback for a nonstandard carport and a pool‑equipment setback for a Cleveland Road property (DRB 23‑09251600).
Staff explained the current request updates a previously approved rooftop addition and corrects an earlier lot‑coverage calculation to reflect a more integrated, custom carport rather than a temporary pipe‑and‑canvas structure. Because the property is a corner lot next to an elevated bridge with a vegetated surplus parcel, staff said relocating the pool equipment next to the bridge would make the equipment less visible and recommended approval. The board noted similar practical difficulties in older lots in the neighborhood where original homes lacked garages and approved the requested variances as consistent with prior local examples.
The board voted 5–0 in favor of the variances. The approval includes the standard condition that final design details follow draft final‑order conditions and that the carport be designed to integrate with the house’s architecture. The board also noted staff would confirm the final carport details as part of the permit review.
