Staff recommends $773,184 contract for repairs to two Chain of Lakes Trail pedestrian bridges

City staff presented item 10a at agenda review recommending the award of an ITB to Metallizing Technical Services LLC to perform repairs and coatings on two pedestrian bridges along the Chain of Lakes Trail near Carefree Cove.
The work recommended for the south bridge spanning the canal between Lake Cartridge and Lake Conine and the north bridge near the 1792 intersection would include coating of steel structures, rub rail replacement, concrete pavement and apron replacement, vegetation removal, and bridge-deck repairs. Staff said the bridges have had minimal maintenance of this magnitude since the trail opened.
Staff told commissioners the lowest responsive, responsible bidder to the January ITB was Metallizing Technical Services LLC and that the project is budgeted in the streets division at $773,184. No formal award vote was recorded at agenda review; staff presented the recommendation for commission consideration at an upcoming meeting.
If approved at the formal meeting, the contract work would be procured and scheduled through the city's streets division and funded from the existing budget allocation for bridge maintenance.
