City Attorney Gatlin presented a first reading of an amendment to the Erlanger Zoning Ordinance on Jan. 7 that would add "building material sales" as a permitted use in the neighborhood commercial zone.
Gatlin told the council the change is largely a housekeeping item and that the Kenton County planning commission (KCPC) recommended approval. He said the text amendment will resolve a nonconforming-use issue for a building that straddles the Erlanger–Ellesmere municipal line and that the change "adds building material sales as a permitted use within the neighborhood commercial zone." The city will treat the measure as a first reading at this meeting.
Gatlin said the omission likely resulted from a prior zoning update and that including building-material sales in the neighborhood commercial zone "makes the most sense, long term" for the affected property and similar uses.
The ordinance remains at first reading; the council did not take further action to adopt it on Jan. 7. No vote tally or ordinance number was provided during the meeting.
The ordinance was introduced during the regular session. Additional public hearings or readings were not specified at the meeting; council members were asked to note the first reading in the minutes.
