Paducah approves three‑year co‑stewardship agreement for Hotel Metropolitan

The Paducah Board of Commissioners on March 4 approved a municipal order authorizing a co‑stewardship agreement between the city and the Uptown Heritage Foundation to support the Hotel Metropolitan and the Purple Room.
The three‑year agreement formalizes roles and responsibilities that were outlined in a previous Mellon Foundation grant application and provides for city funding of up to $250,000 per year for the first three years, with the option to renew the agreement for two additional 12‑month periods. Uptown Heritage Foundation representatives said the grant and the agreement are intended to support capacity building, capital improvements and long‑term sustainability for the venue.
"This has been a work in progress," said Hope (Uptown Heritage Foundation representative), who spoke to the commission about the agreement and its relation to the Mellon Foundation grant. She described the agreement as a way to put commitments in writing and to move into an implementation phase.
Betty (Uptown Heritage Foundation board member) said the foundation has documented community support and volunteer involvement and described recent programming: "In the month of February, for two weeks, we saw 270 people at the Hotel Metropolitan," she said, noting continued board dedication to the project.
City staff and the foundation said they will schedule a kickoff meeting to begin implementation after the mayor executes the agreement.
The municipal order passed on a unanimous roll call.
