Cabell County reports ongoing pre‑K and kindergarten registration; officials say outreach will continue

Christian Giles, identified in the meeting as the staff presenter on early‑childhood registration, told the board that the district distributed registration materials at a Super Saturday event on March 1. She said 28 registration folders were handed out at that event — 19 for kindergarten and 9 for pre‑K — and that registration packets remain available at schools and the board office.
Giles told the board the district’s pre‑K registration “is a little bit down” compared with a typical year, while kindergarten registration “is up a little bit.” She said many kindergarten-age children are currently in district pre‑K programs and that some families still have unfinished packets to complete. Giles also reported that some pre‑K registrations came through childcare partners; one childcare provider had not yet returned its registration totals to the district.
Board members asked questions and Giles said further announcements and outreach would occur over the summer and through school registration offices to increase pre‑K signups.
The board did not take formal action on the report; staff said registration will continue and families may call the district office for assistance.
