The Whiteland Town Council on March 11 approved a sales and service contract to repair Engine 71 following a staff presentation about the maintenance need and the vendor proposal.
A council member moved to approve the expenditure outlined in the sales and service contract and to engage the vendor (identified in the packet as "Commons"/common vendor). The motion passed on a recorded roll-call vote.
During discussion council members stressed the importance of certified mechanics for heavy diesel apparatus and recommended the town seek ASE or equivalent diesel certifications for service providers to reduce liability and ensure safe repairs. Staff said they would pursue a certified technician and that parts and labor warranties would be addressed in the contract.
