The Whiteland Town Council approved a professional services agreement with Commonwealth Engineers on March 11 in the amount of $80,911 to develop plans and provide project management for rebuilding the town's street garage. Staff said the expense will be reimbursed by insurance.
Staff described the agreement as funding engineering and project management services to produce plans required for state review and insurance reimbursement. "That'll also help with kind of the plans and getting everything submitted to the state, the inspection process, and just kind of alleviating the staff having to be over here every day," a staff member said.
Council members said they want to review design documents when ready and suggested improving the exterior and standards so the rebuilt facility aligns with corridor and downtown expectations. The council approved the agreement on a recorded roll call vote.
Staff said design-level approval and any major building expenditures will return to the council for review; the professional services agreement covers the design and project-management phase to move the insurance-funded rebuild forward.
