The Lafourche Parish School board opened its meeting with awards and recognitions for students and staff from across the parish, highlighting athletic, academic and extracurricular accomplishments at the state and national levels.
The board recognized student-athletes named to the LHSAA composite all-academic team and class all-academic teams from Central Lafourche High School, South Lafourche High School and Thibodaux High School, and named individual honorees in sports including basketball, soccer and powerlifting. The board also honored students who placed in state competitions: a Lockport Upper fourth-grader who placed third in an inclusive art program run by the governor’s Office of Disability Affairs, winners of the Lafourche Education Foundation poster contest, and middle-school winners at the Louisiana FFA State Leadership Development events.
Administrators said the recognitions included accomplishments in arts, FFA and Beta Club as well as athletics. School and district staff presented each honoree with an award and photographs were taken for the district’s website and social media.
The awards portion concluded with the board taking a hand vote to accept the recognitions; the chair announced the motion carried unanimously.
The recognitions are annual and intended to highlight student achievement across academics, arts and athletics in Lafourche Parish.
