Bossier Parish announces 2024–25 Students of the Year; two advance as regional finalists

The Bossier Parish School Board on March 6 recognized its 2024–25 Students of the Year from elementary, middle and high schools across the parish and announced district winners who will advance to the zone and regional rounds of the Louisiana Students of the Year competition.
Tonya Haney, coordinator for the district’s Student of the Year program, described the selection timeline: schools select winners in October, district scoring occurs in November and district winners advance to zone, regional and state rounds. She said the state awards ceremony is scheduled for May and the district’s Celebration of Excellence is scheduled for April 29, 2025.
Pat McConathy, identified as vice president of business banking for the bank that sponsors the program, spoke for the sponsor and said the bank has supported the district for decades. Superintendent Rowland presented district plaques to the parish winners.
District winners announced at the meeting were Carrington Brown (elementary, Stockwell Place Elementary), Lily Keys (middle, Green Acres Middle) and Kylie Small (high, Haughton High). Haney told the board that Lily Keys and Kylie Small will represent Bossier Parish as Region 4 finalists in the state competition.
The recognition segment included a roll call of dozens of school-level recipients from across the district; board members and the sponsor posed for photos with students and provided certificates to the honorees.
