Local nonprofit Mind Matters asks board to support mental‑health and financial‑literacy events at adopted schools

Crystal Ellison, representing Mind Matters Foundation Inc., addressed the Caddo Parish School Board during the visitor section on March 18, 2025 to request district support for a mental‑health awareness event planned for May and to describe ongoing work at two adopted schools.
Ellison said the nonprofit has adopted J.S. Clark Elementary and Turner Elementary, has run back‑to‑school drives and mental‑health workshops, and is piloting a financial‑literacy program at Huntington High School. She asked the board to encourage community participation, note district support and help publicize the May event, which will include vendors such as Red River Bank and local mental‑health agencies.
Doctor Terrence Vinson, the District 3 board representative, thanked Ellison, said he had attended an event at Turner and offered to put Ellison in touch with Board Member Veil and district staff to coordinate. "I attended the event at Turner. And it is a great work there," Doctor Vinson said.
Ellison described the May event as aimed at improving academics and mindfulness, destigmatizing mental‑health topics, and connecting families with summer resources and services.
