Caddo Parish honors student leader, concert band and All‑State musicians at board meeting

Student leader of the month: The board introduced David Adger, a senior at Booker T. Washington High School, as the March student leader of the month. Adger told the board he earned an associate degree in general studies before his senior year through the district's early college program and is pursuing a second associate degree in pre‑engineering; he plans to attend Jackson State University to study biomedical engineering. "I had the privilege to earn an associate's degree in general studies... I will not have one, but two associate's degrees before I walk across the graduation stage," Adger said.
Music performance and accomplishments: The Booker T. Washington concert band performed and was introduced by district staff. Presenters highlighted the ensemble's awards, including superior ratings at LMEA District 8 Large Ensemble Assessment and festival trophies from Southern University and Alcorn State University, plus a first place finish at a national festival in 2017. The board paused to thank principal Crystal Barnes and music teachers credited with producing the programs.
All‑State musicians and teachers: Board members recognized middle‑ and high‑school students selected for Louisiana All‑State ensembles after statewide auditions. Dozens of students across Caddo Parish were named and invited onstage for photos; district staff also publicly thanked teachers and directors including Zach Grant, Amy Kutz (band) and Rebecca Bridal (choir).
Fire department commendation: Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese presented a certificate and challenge coin to Caron Johnson in recognition of Johnson's actions during a house fire on Jan. 24, 2025, which Reese said enabled a family of six to escape without injury.
The presentations occupied a major portion of the meeting and drew sustained applause from the audience; board members urged additional support for music and student recognition programs.
