The Caddo Parish School Board on March 18, 2025 adopted a resolution of continued employment to preserve staff employment status through the summer break and prevent district employees from receiving unemployment benefits during scheduled breaks. The motion was moved by Miss Yates and seconded by Mister Veil and passed by a 9-0 voice vote.
Board member Mister Abrams explained the purpose of the resolution: when employees have a scheduled break (for example, summer recess), a board resolution can establish that the district intends for employees to continue employment, which prevents claims for unemployment during that break. "People could go and get unemployment, and they allow you to have a resolution that you intend to have continuous employment," Abrams said, explaining the rationale for the annual action.
The board approved the resolution with no further public comment. Staff did not indicate any change to payroll or staffing levels as part of the measure; the resolution is a standard annual administrative action.
