Colorado House adopts gun-show oversight bill after hours of debate

DENVER — The Colorado House of Representatives passed House Bill 12-38 on third reading and final passage on March 14, adopting new requirements for promoters and vendors at gun shows in a 34-30 vote with one member excused.

The bill, introduced on the floor as “House Bill 12-38 by representatives Joseph and Camacho,” drew sustained debate about whether new rules would improve public safety or effectively curtail lawful commerce at gun shows across the state.

Why it matters: HB12-38 would require promoters and some vendors at gun shows to meet specific security, licensing and recordkeeping requirements and creates penalties for repeat noncompliance.
