Student and parent urge board action after alleged repeated bullying and choking incident

"I had a bully ever since last year. And he's still being rude, and nobody's doing anything about it," said Scott Allen Eubanks Jr., who addressed the board during public comment. The child specified that the same classmate had threatened him again and that school staff had not resolved the situation to his or his family's satisfaction.
A parent who spoke after the student described an earlier choking incident that required medical attention and said school responses to subsequent threats had been insufficient. "My baby should not be in danger when he goes to school," the parent said, and asked the board to attend an Individualized Education Program meeting scheduled for Feb. 6 to ensure that safety measures are included in the student's IEP.

Board response and next steps Board members acknowledged the comment and asked for an update. "There's been extensive meetings, and Mr. Roberts will get you the report on it," one board member said. Two board members requested a further update because the matter had been ongoing.
No formal board action was taken during the meeting. The parent asked board members to attend the student's upcoming IEP meeting and indicated intent to pursue administrative and civil remedies if the district did not adequately protect the child.
