Board’s building and site subcommittee closes month with credits; board to award summer work including Dakota High glazing and kitchen equipment

The Chippewa Valley Schools building and site subcommittee met Jan. 13 and reviewed a December change‑order summary and a recommended set of summer 2025 contracts that will be on the board agenda.
Change orders and credits Jeff Atkins, presenting for facilities, said there were about 16 change orders for the month of December: 10 tied to bond projects, five to the school safety and security grant, and one technology item. “Majority of those are credits,” Atkins told the subcommittee, and he said the net savings will return to the bond program or the safety grant. Many of the change orders, he noted, were contract close‑outs from last summer and required reconciliation with contractors.
Recommended awards for summer 2025 (Bid Package 7D) Atkins described three recommended awards (glazing, mechanical and electrical) for summer projects across the district. The largest visible component is work at Dakota High School to replace about 30–33 remaining glass‑block openings around the pool area with a translucent, more durable panel product. Atkins said the panels are more labor intensive and relatively costly but are designed to be more resistant to repeated breakage in that setting.
Atkins also described mechanical work in the central kitchen that would replace two aging steam kettles with hot‑water kettles; he said that work will be paid from the food service fund rather than bond proceeds. The electrical scope includes emergency‑lighting upgrades in the Dakota auditorium and additional AV work at both high schools; some items are to be paid from bond dollars.
Board action The full board later approved the December change‑order summary as part of consent and awarded contracts for the stated renovation projects; the motions carried. The change orders and bid awards were reported to the board’s building and site subcommittee on Jan. 13 for review before the full‑board votes.
Ending note Atkins said most contractor reconciliation is now done and the district prefers credits be returned to bond or grant accounts for future work. The kitchen mechanical replacements were presented as a direct operations upgrade intended to reduce downtime and maintenance burden on aging steam equipment.
