Dearborn board commends students and staff, accepts donations; approves minutes on unanimous motion

Employee recognitions named Wendy Shane (teacher, Snow Elementary), Mae Darwish (special education paraprofessional) and Hannah Faraj (principal at Gear Park) as this month's honorees. The board noted these employees were nominated by peers and recognized during school visits.
Donations announced at the meeting included: $146.72 to Howell and Howard Elementary (Dearborn Education Foundation) for a book-study program; $1,000 donations to multiple schools to be used for football equipment (Dearborn Education Foundation); a milk cooler donation to Kotter School from the United Dairy Industry of Michigan; pairs of AirPods and other prize items donated to Dearborn High School and Edsel Ford High School by the United Dairy Industry of Michigan for promotional activities; a grant to several high schools to support Vitamix blenders for school breakfast smoothies (United Dairy Industry of Michigan); $500 from the Islamic Center of America for a Martin Luther King Jr. service project; $1,000 to Salina Intermediate School from the American Muslim Society for transportation to Cedar Point; and a $3,000 scholarship donation from the Islamic Center of America divided among Dearborn High, Edsel Ford and Forsyth High Schools.
On a procedural motion, Trustee D'Ambrosio moved and Trustee Petlichkoff supported approval of minutes for recent Finance Committee, Policy Committee and P-12 meetings. The chair called for any corrections, none were offered, and the motion carried on a unanimous voice vote recorded by the chair in the transcript. The board also heard public comments praising the district's diversity and arts programs and thanking staff, and several student leaders read district commendations earlier in the meeting.
