The Anderson City review board approved the demolition of a duplex at 1012 South McDuffie after staff told the board the structure does not contribute to the historic character of the district and is in advanced deterioration.
Staff said the City of Anderson building and code department received complaints about the building, the owners received multiple warnings and responded to a courtesy summons on Jan. 13. At that meeting, staff said, the owners agreed to demolish the structure. “Since the structure does not contribute to the historic character of the district and because of its advanced deterioration, staff recommends approval of demolition,” a staff member said.
A board member made a motion to approve demolition; the motion was seconded and the board carried the motion unanimously. The staff presentation included photographs and a statement that the roof condition had worsened since the submittal and that the structure was beyond repair. No replacement plan or timeline for demolition was specified during the hearing.
