The Spanish Fork City Council on March 18 approved an updated four‑year contract with the Diamond Fork Riding Club to produce the Fiesta Days rodeo and related events. The agreement is automatically renewable for successive four‑year terms unless terminated with required notice.
Staff and club leaders said the contract modernizes decades‑old language, clarifies responsibilities and creates a payment schedule that compensates the riding club $74,500 for services that the city previously supported. Representatives said $54,500 of that amount is payable before March 1 (per the draft language presented) to cover hospitality, volunteer support, facility usage throughout the year, the rodeo queen contest and other club‑run operations. The club will remain responsible for volunteer labor, hospitality, food for contestants and workers, the queen contest and other event‑management activities spelled out in the contract.
Diamond Fork Riding Club leaders and long‑time volunteers described the rodeo’s historic origins and the scope of the volunteer effort, which the club said has included a winter Buckaroo series for youth, a veterans’ ride and multiple community events in addition to Fiesta Days. Club representatives said the contract will be reviewed annually after each rodeo and adjusted in writing as necessary; council members praised the long volunteer history and the committee's work on the updated agreement.
Council approved the contract by roll call after a brief in‑chamber exchange. Staff noted the contract includes a termination clause and a provision for written changes after each rodeo season. Councilmembers and club leaders encouraged public involvement and said volunteer and auxiliary roles are available for people who want to help produce the event each year.
