Gardner council confirms reappointments, refers merged Economic Development/Finance job to committee and backs CDBG application

The council then voted to certify the appointment. Councilor Heath reported the veterans agent is a veteran and that the committee also voted unanimously to recommend his confirmation. Both measures were approved by voice vote.
The council also confirmed three reappointments to the Council on Aging: Ron G. Darmetka, Paul Leoni and Paul Crowley. Councilor Hegland said each is an active volunteer with the senior center and that the appointments committee recommended all three unanimously. The measures were approved by voice vote.
On the Economic Development and Finance Manager position, Councilor Hegland moved to recommit the order and the companion ordinance (which would add the position to the Non-Union Compensation Schedule, Schedule E of Chapter 171) to the Economic Development Subcommittee for further review; Councilor Mack seconded. Hegland said the Finance Committee had vetted the consolidation of two positions but that the subcommittee should review the job's structure and salary, noting much of the proposed salary is currently paid from Community Development Block Grant funding and that reliance on grant funds is not guaranteed. "It allows the council to be more thorough," Councilor Kacinskas said in support. The motion passed.
The council's Economic and Community Development committee's agenda item — a resolution supporting the City of Gardner's FY2025 Community Development Block Grant Mini Entitlement Plan — was granted by motion from Councilor Kacinskas and second by Councilor Cormier. That resolution passed on voice vote.
