The resident described the building as “amazing” and said it includes a story time center, an arts center for kids, a teen center and a multipurpose room with study rooms. “This library is truly an asset to our community,” the resident said.
The speaker said the facility includes state-of-the-art technology and enough room to host neighborhood and community meetings and small events. The resident added that food is allowed in the multipurpose space, making it possible to hold events with refreshments on site.
The speaker encouraged people to reach out to branch managers — who the speaker identified as East Point residents — to reserve space. The resident also said the facility is being used by community organizations and neighborhood associations for meetings.
At the reopening the resident credited former Mayor Patsey Joe Hilliard with helping secure both a health care clinic and a library in the city, saying those efforts addressed access and equity challenges. The speaker said the renovated space serves residents of Fulton County and, more broadly as the speaker put it, “the entire county of Detroit.”
The resident closed by inviting neighbors to visit, check out books and use the facility’s programs and technology.
