Council forwards towing-services contract to consent agenda after police briefing

Police Chief Chris Paucet explained changes in local towing providers and fees and asked the council to consider a contract with Summit Towing to standardize rates for police‑directed tows.
Paucet said the city previously used Jim’s Towing and sometimes paid tow fees exceeding $350 per incident; the proposed Summit Towing contract would cap police-directed tow fees at $129 per incident for routine impounds. He described the contract as a way to control costs when the police department directs a tow for a collision, crime‑scene or other municipal need.
Council reviewed a reading of resolution number 1370Dash0225, “a resolution of the council of the city of Shelton, Washington authorizing a contract for towing services between the Shelton Police Department and Summit Towing.” A council member moved and a second was made to place the resolution on the April 1 consent agenda; the motion passed by voice vote.
The council did not adopt the contract on March 18; the item was scheduled for the consent agenda at the April 1 meeting for final approval.
