ECICOG update: grants fund most work; climate action planning grants flagged as at-risk

Karen Kurt, executive director of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG), told the Linn County Board of Supervisors on March 10 that most of ECICOG’s work is funded through grants and through administering grants for member counties and municipalities.
Kurt said the limited county contributions ECICOG receives are important as matching funds and to help sustain the organization. She flagged two climate action planning grants as probably at risk under the current federal administration but said a court order has allowed work on those grants to continue for now. Kurt also praised county staff and singled out Kara Mattson for “being fantastic to work with” on multiple projects.
