Board approves $29,700 contract with Design Dynamics for courthouse plaza and façade work

The Linn County Board of Supervisors voted March 12 to approve a $29,700 professional services agreement with Design Dynamics to restore the courthouse entrance plaza and perform exterior façade work, including tuckpointing.
"So this is an agreement with the... for the courthouse, plaza and tuck pointing on the face of the courthouse," said Luke Fisher, Linn County facilities director, summarizing the scope. Fisher told the board the work is intended to occur this spring and summer, pending coordination.
Fisher said the project will be funded from the county's capital improvement project (CIP) pool; he noted two CIP projects will draw from a shared $425,000 pool. "This is funding with CIP that we have 2 different projects that we'll be using for funding for out of a 425, pool for," Fisher said.
Supervisors raised logistics concerns: construction timing and limited on-site parking, the county's upcoming courthouse centennial celebration, and overlap with the city's Third Avenue Bridge project, which is expected to close the adjacent bridge for summer construction. Fisher said county staff and the contractor will coordinate with the city and county attorney's office on parking, contractor staging and timing.
A supervisor moved to approve the agreement and another seconded; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
The contract amount and source of funds were stated in the meeting record; no contract number or start/end dates were presented during the discussion. Supervisors asked staff to coordinate scheduling and parking plans before work begins.
