Newton County Schools board recognizes student-athletes and coaches for regional, state championships

At the high‑school level, Eastside High School students Malachi Riley (third place at state) and Nolan Christian (second place at state) were recognized, and Micah Mostick, a sophomore at Eastside, was honored as a GHSA state wrestling champion.
Newton High School’s boys basketball team was recognized as state runners‑up; individual players named included Jordan Green, Bryce Jackson, Zach Harden, Marcus Smith and Davin "Ted" Neal, and head coach Barry Browner was acknowledged. Newton High’s girls team, the Lady Rams, were celebrated as 2025 state champions after a 59–56 win over Grayson; players recognized included Alyssa Sandefer, Zoe Jackson, Skyla LaValle, Maya Perry and London Smith (named the state tournament MVP). Coach Juwan Bailey and assistant coaches were also acknowledged.
Superintendent Dr. Bradley and the chair asked the audience to give the athletes and coaches an extended round of applause and said athletics contributes to students’ broader development.
The board then moved on to routine business and budget items after closing the recognition portion of the meeting.
