The Kings Local Board of Education recognized state‑qualifying student athletes and student presenters during its March 18 meeting.
Athletic director Eric Taylor told the board that Kings High School junior Maya Swicker won two state championships at the Ohio High School Athletic Association meet in Canton, becoming the first Kings swimmer to win two state titles in one season. Taylor said Swicker defended the 100‑yard backstroke, broke the state record in that event and also won the 100‑yard butterfly; the presentation named her the Division I female performer of the meet.
Taylor also recounted that 10 Kings swimmers attended the state meet. Relay teams and individual qualifiers were listed in the presentation; coaches Meisner and others were recognized. On the indoor track side, six athletes competed at the OHSAA indoor track championships on March 8. The district reported a school record in the 200‑meter relay (1:30.52) and noted individual placings, including a fifth‑place finish in the 200 meter and qualifying marks for national competition for one athlete.
Later in the meeting, Kings High School student leaders Taylor Kleiss and Gabby Cabrera delivered the monthly student presentation, highlighting athletics, academic competitions and community service: the swim and indoor track achievements, gymnastics district placements, a first‑ever men’s volleyball program, speech competition representation, volunteer fundraisers and a student group that packed 9,500 meals for a children’s charity. The students also noted participation in Business Professionals of America national qualifiers and career‑center projects for practical skills.
Board members and administrators congratulated the athletes, coaches and student presenters. No formal action was taken during the recognition segment.
