Trustees approved a vendor contract to install synthetic turf and resurface the Colfax High track; project funded from developer fees and contingency held for drainage and adjacent site work.
The Placer Union High School District board approved a contract to install a new synthetic turf field and resurface the track at Colfax High School, with construction scheduled to start after graduation and to be completed before the next school year if site conditions permit.
District staff presented a bid from Valley Precision/TENCATE (vendor names in packet) and a cost estimate of approximately $1.9 million for turf and resurfacing, with staff recommending an allocation up to $2.1–2.2 million including contingency for site grading, drainage and related stadium repairs. "We're then going with a group called TENCATE," said the facilities presenter, describing the vendor and a product that does not require loose infill materials.
The board asked about relative costs compared with prior installations and warranty/life-expectancy of turf fields. Staff said the installation at Placer High and Del Oro used similar vendors and materials; vendor warranties and routine maintenance practices were noted. Trustees asked about drainage work, lighting, and track condition; staff said track resurfacing would be included and some localized upgrades to runways and stadium access would be performed.
Funding for the project will come from developer impact fees (fund 25) that are restricted to capital improvements related to development impacts. Trustees discussed limits on those fees and clarified that routine maintenance and roofs are not eligible uses for developer fees. The motion to award the contract passed unanimously.
Staff said contractors will begin mobilization in summer and aim to complete turf and track work before the fall season; staff also noted contingency funds will be used only as required for unforeseen grading or drainage needs.
