Senator James Ruckde presented RS32513C1, a lengthy uniform‑law commission draft revising conservatorship, guardianship and probate code after multi‑year study. Senator Camille Blaylock introduced RS32692, a trailer bill expanding exemptions in the newborn screening law enacted last session. Senator Todd Lakey presented RS32693, a collaborative bill clarifying state public‑defender coverage, costs, workload standards and a transition plan to vacate county facilities with an implementation plan and submission timeline starting in 2027.
Committee motions to print the RS drafts were moved and seconded by various senators and carried by voice vote. The committee chair noted the RS32513C1 draft is long and planners intend to bring a refined bill early in the next session for fuller consideration.
