Council votes to serve notice to extend town manager27s contract before May 17 deadline

Mayor Jim Kuretsky said the existing appointment agreement, dated May 17, 2022, currently ends May 17, 2025, and that the council intended to notify the manager of its desire to extend the agreement. Council members discussed timing and record-keeping and agreed that HR or the town attorney should establish reminders so future contract deadlines are not missed.
A motion to "serve notice to the town manager of extending the contract for 3 years" was moved and seconded during the meeting and carried unanimously. Council members said the forthcoming agenda packet would include the proposed time extension and related items such as salary and benefits adjustments if applicable; the motion recorded was to give formal notice of the council's intent to extend and to bring back a fully documented amendment for a future vote.
Council members asked that a clear timeline and annual performance review dates accompany future contract amendments so deadlines are not missed. The council did not adopt contract language at the March 18 meeting; it directed staff to prepare the formal amendment and return it on a future agenda prior to May 17.
