The Norman Planning Commission on an up‑or‑down vote approved a rezoning, comp‑plan amendment and preliminary plat to allow a self‑storage planned unit development at 281 West Tecumseh Road.
The commission voted 6–0 to recommend approval of the change from A‑2 Rural Agricultural to PUD and to move the site from the city's future urban service area into the current urban service area so the project may proceed as proposed by the applicant, Storage Oklahoma (G2SOK Investments LLC). The motion was made and seconded during the March hearing; a commissioner recused from consideration of this and several related items earlier in the meeting.
The project covers roughly 5.93 acres and, as presented, would include 12 storage buildings, one access drive on West Tecumseh Road and a detention pond along the north edge intended to reduce offsite runoff. The applicant's presentation said the detention area was increased by about 40% compared with the initial design, and that the revised plan lowered peak flow to the neighborhood to roughly half of current predevelopment…
