Tift County plans $1.7 million in road and bridge work in combined LME applications

TIFT COUNTY — County staff presented combined Local Maintenance and Improvement (LME) applications for fiscal years 2024 and 2025 that would fund resurfacing, road rebuilding and a bridge project across multiple local roads, and said the county will provide a 10% match.
Staff said work already in progress includes drainage and dirt work on Red Oak Road; the county has completed roughly half the roadway base in preparation for asphalt. A pre‑construction/pre‑bid meeting on the bridge was scheduled for the following day, staff said.
The combined package includes resurfacing of already paved sections of Red Oak Road, work on Academy Drive in Tula and Brookfield Nashville Road (the latter described as the segment from Whitley Road to the Bexar County line near the former Patrick’s Fishing Paradise). Staff estimated the combined request at about $1.7 million and said the county would provide a 10% local match, supplemented by swap funds.
"Adding all this together, we're looking at around $1,700,000 if you put the two LMEs together," said the presenter. The county plans to include the projects in the LME application and to use available swap funds and the local match to cover the county share.
No vote on the LME applications was recorded in the transcript; the item was presented as part of routine infrastructure project business.
