The Woodland Park Historic Preservation Committee reviewed a midterm preservation plan and discussed outreach and parks-related work during the meeting.
Preservation plan: Committee members reported they had received a midterm preservation plan and noted it appeared to list consultants and a timeline; members said the document is concise, visually accessible and likely adopted around 2022. The committee agreed to contact the plan authors (Midterm) to ask about the process and any consulting costs so the committee can consider whether to replicate elements or budget for consultant help.
Birchstone / Bergstrom Park consultant: Committee members said Logan Simpson is under contract for the Birchstone Park project and that the consultant had made an on-site visit earlier in the afternoon. A kickoff meeting with stakeholders — Parks & Rec Advisory Board, Historic Preservation Committee and the Downtown Development Authority — was expected but a date had not been set.
Arts outreach and poster contest: Members discussed ideas for a poster or coloring contest (or a multi-page kids activity sheet) to engage children with local history; they also floated plein-air and graphic-arts events for adults and possible partnership with the Teller County Arts Alliance (Gail Gross was named as a contact). Parks staff contact Maria and Parks Director Cindy were referenced as partners in the early planning.
Meeting schedule and administrative items: The committee agreed to cancel the April 1 meeting, hold the next meeting on April 29 (a fifth-Tuesday special date noted by a member), cancel the May 6 meeting, and resume the regular schedule on June 3. Committee members asked staff to post those changes and circulate updated calendar invitations. Members also reported laminated historical posters intended for local restaurants and for distribution at an upcoming city council meeting.
Members asked staff to follow up with Midterm (plan authors) for cost and adoption-date details, to coordinate stakeholder dates for the Birchstone Park kickoff, and to confirm Parks & Rec and Arts Alliance participation in outreach ideas.
