Wakulla County commissioners on March 17 approved a rezoning request (R-24-14) to change a parcel along Crawfordville Highway from agricultural to planned unit development, allowing a conceptual plan for 23 single-family detached homes and two commercial lots.
County planning staff told the board the parcel’s future land-use designation is Rural-3 and that the proposed PUD would result in lower density than the land-use maximum. Staff recommended approval and explained the site is in the X flood zone; no written or verbal complaints had been received during the public-notice period.
The agenda materials described the parcel acreage inconsistently: the summary called it “just over 51 acres,” while the subsequent presentation referred to “just over 31 acres.” That discrepancy was not resolved on the record. The applicant’s conceptual plan included the 23 single-family units and the two commercial lots; staff said the PUD application included the development plan and a supplemental order for the board’s consideration.
A motion to approve the rezoning carried after a motion and second on the floor; no individual mover or seconder was recorded in the oral record. The board voted in favor and the rezoning was adopted as presented.
The planning division indicated that the PUD plan must still comply with final engineering, permitting and any required post‑approval conditions before building permits are issued. No members of the public spoke against the application during the hearing.
Commissioners and staff also noted the property abuts the northern boundary of the Golden Gate Forest subdivision.
