Mainland deputy chief appraiser reports staffing, scanning and web updates to Glynn County assessors

Yolanda Ward, Mainland Residential Deputy Chief Appraiser, briefed the board on her unit’s responsibilities and recent projects affecting property records and valuations.

Ward said the Mainland area includes the City of Brunswick (excluding the TAD district) and mainland Glynn County parcels out to the county lines with Brantley, Wayne, McIntosh and Camden counties. She said the Brunswick area comprises roughly 7,000 parcels and that her team includes one supervisor and three appraisers responsible for picking up new construction, maintaining accurate property information and applying fair‑market values.

Ward reported the appraisal office’s multi‑year scanning project has scanned nearly 30,000 property record files to date and that staff are working with the records retention officer to follow Department of Revenue retention schedules. She said some scanned files may eventually be accessible via the appraisal office web page once the county completes the site redesign.

On aerial photography, Ward said she will coordinate with GIS staff (new lead Johnson Tenno) and expected updated imagery already to be appearing in the county’s public map system; she promised a status update at the next board meeting.

Why it matters: Ward said the scanning project preserves historical cards (some dating to the 1960s), improves staff access to records and supports appraisal accuracy and appeals processing.
