Council approves offering optional water/sewer service-line warranty to customers

Nashville — The Town of Nashville will offer an optional service-line warranty and leak-protection program to water and sewer customers, the council decided after staff reported limited resident interest in a previous poll.
Staff said the vendor — a home-service company based in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania — proposed two products: a leak-protection program and a service-line warranty program. Following a customer poll, 15 customers responded; 11 expressed interest and 4 not interested. Given the modest response, staff recommended the town offer the warranty program as an opt-in service.
Under the council’s approval, the program will be offered as an optional item the customer can sign up for directly with the company; the town will include notice on water bills that the program is available but will not automatically enroll customers. The vendor offered the town the option to receive a small share of monthly premiums or instead to permit a discount in customer rates; council members agreed not to accept vendor revenue to avoid the appearance the town would profit from the program.
Council emphasized this is an optional service; customers who do not want it will not be enrolled or charged. The program will not cost the town; if customers opt in they will pay the vendor directly via the sign-up process described on the bill.
