Public questions district staffing requests; board approves 2025–26 FTE request

Several public commenters and board members pressed the district on recent staffing proposals and the 2025–26 FTE request, including whether existing staff could absorb new duties and the cost implications of proposed positions.
Parent Pete Vanderblieck urged the board to scrutinize an advertised administrative position he said would cost “a quarter of a million dollars a year” and questioned a proposed warehouse specialist FTE with an annual cost “just over $81,000.” Vanderblieck asked whether overtime or part-time hours could cover the warehouse work rather than a full-time hire.
Board members questioned why the district needs a new multilingual instructional coach in addition to existing instructional coaches. District staff answered the coach would be a specialty position to support a two-way dual-language program, require fluency in Spanish and English, and provide classroom modeling and co-teaching. Staff said the multilingual coach would carry the same salary as other instructional coaches and that existing coaches are “quite busy” supporting a wide range of grades and subjects.
After discussion, the board moved and seconded approval of the full FTE request for the 2025–26 school year. A roll call vote followed and the board recorded votes in favor. The warehouse specialist request and other FTE items will be implemented according to the approved staffing plan and budget processes.
