The ALC-EXECUTIVE SUBCOMMITTEE approved a waiver allowing the Waldron School District to use cooperative purchasing for a roof replacement at its elementary school after district officials said hail damage pushed the project above $1,000,000.
Superintendent Daniel Fielding told the committee the school sustained structural hail damage and that the district filed a claim with ASBA. “We took [bids] in August of 20 24. We had a competitive bid process,” Fielding said, adding that ASBA initially recommended rebidding and that the district had “finally broken the dam” and been awarded the money to proceed.
Fielding said the district needs the work completed in the summer, because the project involves removing two existing roof layers and installing a new roof. He said contractors estimate the work will take “probably 2, 2 and a half months.” A committee member asked about the size of the building; Fielding said the elementary school is about 96,000 square feet. The superintendent cited the project cost being over $1,000,000 as the reason for requesting the waiver.
After brief comments and no substantive objections, a member moved to approve the waiver and another member seconded. The committee took a voice vote; the presiding member declared, “The ayes have it,” and the motion passed.
No additional conditions or follow-up tasks were placed on the waiver during the discussion, and the subcommittee moved on to other business and adjourned.
