Deputy Tax Commissioner Alice Everett presented each request in turn and told commissioners the tax office used assessor values and followed statutory procedures when issuing bills. For several requests, Everett said taxpayers had paid after the due date; in one case a USPS postmark showed a payment arrived a day after the deadline. The tax office told the committee it was not negligent in performing its duties and provided supporting documentation for its determinations.
