County plans $283,695 contract amendment for jail building-envelope bid package; schedule aims to complete renovation in 2025

Johnson County facilities staff briefed supervisors Feb. 5 on an amendment to a professional services agreement with Acxiom Consultants to develop construction bid documents for a building‑envelope stabilization project at 511 Capitol St. (the sheriff’s office and jail).
Facilities Director Dave Kearns said Acxiom’s investigative work identified needs to stabilize the envelope and that the firm submitted an amendment priced at $283,695 to prepare bid documents and project specifications. Kearns said the signed contract was returned to the county and forwarded to the county attorney’s office for review; staff planned to bring the amendment to the board for formal approval next Thursday.
Acxiom consultant Rob Decker, who spoke briefly, cautioned that schedule estimates depend in part on equipment lead times and that the proposal’s schedule — which aims for renovation work this year — was “tentative and aggressive.” Kearns said the schedule in the packet targets completion of work by the end of 2025 and that staff will work with the county attorney to finalize the contract language.
