Facilities director seeks authorization to refill retiring custodian position

Dave Lord, director of Facilities, briefed the board on a personnel request to replace a retiring custodian. Lord said the employee’s retirement is effective April 4 and that, after reviewing recommended custodial staffing by square footage, Facilities believes the county may need additional custodial full-time equivalents rather than a one-for-one refill.
Lord provided supervisors a fact sheet describing the trade-offs if the county did not refill the position, and he said some custodial tasks have been deferred during recent staffing shortages. Supervisors discussed the timing of posting and hiring so the department is not left short of staff during upcoming vacations.
Staff noted four signatures had been collected to proceed with the personnel request; supervisors indicated support for moving forward subject to budget and hiring processes.
