Staff said the district accepted online comments for the open or closed session from 7 a.m. through 8:30 a.m. on March 19; comments submitted during that window would be provided to the board but “will not be read during the meeting,” the district stated. A staff member told the board, “As of 8:30 this morning, there were no submissions.”
Officials also reviewed procedural limits described on the agenda: speakers may be allotted up to five minutes each, and the board may allocate a maximum of 20 minutes to a single subject. The board president retains the discretion to reduce individual time when more than four people speak on the same subject so that all voices can be heard within the allotted period. The board read a statement that “all meetings of the Board of Education are open to members of the public” and directed attendees with disability‑related accommodation needs to contact the assistant to the superintendent at the district (phone (626) 299‑7000, extension 1310 or jdel0at0re@smusd.us) at least 48 hours before a meeting.
No public comment cards were received at the meeting and no online submissions were reported at the stated cutoff, after which the board recessed for a short break and went into closed session to hear the classified‑employee dismissal appeal. The transcript of the public portion recorded only the procedural review and the absence of public comment; no formal vote or public action on the appeal was reported in the public portion of the meeting.
