The Glynn County Island Planning Commission approved site plan SP‑25‑15677 on Feb. 25 to allow a 1,210‑square‑foot storage addition to an existing tire and automotive service business at 677 Skyline Road on St. Simons Island.
Planning staff told commissioners the property is in a Planned Development district (ZM‑4034) and is owned by the Glynn County Airport Commission; CSCC Inc is listed as agent for the airport commission and J & J Tire operates on the site. Planner Christopher Carey described the proposed addition and noted the applicant requested a variance from the county’s tree ordinance because Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations restrict planting of large trees near airport property.
Applicant representative Chris Amos of CSCC Inc. said the addition would increase shop area for J & J Tire and explained the variance request reflected aviation safety concerns. Public comment was not offered on the item after the staff and applicant presentations. A commissioner moved to approve SP‑25‑15677 “as presented,” the motion was seconded and the commission recorded the item as approved.
The staff report and site plan show the new storage building on the rear of the existing structure and identify parking and site configuration. The record notes the tree ordinance variance request but does not include a separate recorded vote on that variance in the public transcript; the site plan containing the variance request was approved by the commission during the meeting.
County planning staff will continue to process construction permits and any applicable variance documentation through the normal permitting and review channels.
