The El Segundo City Council on March 18 adopted a resolution to establish an undergrounding utility district on Laerport Street from Mariposa Avenue to Maple Avenue to enable Southern California Edison to design and construct underground electrical and communication lines under the Rule 20A tariff program.
Public Works Director Elias Sassoon told the council that, under Rule 20A, SCE will pay to replace existing overhead electrical distribution lines, fiber optic communication lines and other communication lines on poles; transmission lines are exempt and will remain. Sassoon said the work also provides an opportunity to add transformer capacity to support businesses interested in relocating to Laerport Street.
The council adopted the resolution required to allow Southern California Edison to proceed with design and construction as part of the Rule 20A program. The transcript did not include a roll-call vote or tally for the resolution.
