PRC approves RFP to replace Westview Park playground with $50,000 base budget

The Village of Cross Plains Parks and Recreation Committee voted Feb. 10 to issue a request for proposals for replacement playground equipment at Westview Park, with a base-price cap of $50,000 and optional addenda for additional features and installation.

Why it matters: the existing equipment at Westview was removed because of deteriorated surfacing and aging components; staff said the neighborhood has many children and the village budget includes $50,000 for the project this year.

Staff described the RFP scope as a base set of play equipment sized to the park’s square footage, with addenda for optional pieces such as additional swings or specialized play panels. The RFP allows bidders to provide a full manufacturer-supplied playground with installation or to propose a supervised community-install option; staff said a supervised install may allow more equipment for the same budget but requires significant volunteer labor.

Meeting materials asked proposers to keep the primary playground proposal at or below $50,000; addendum options for additional components would be priced above that amount and brought back to the board for a funding decision if chosen. Staff said the $50,000 figure is included in this year’s budget.

Motion and vote: a motion to issue the RFP for Westview Park playground was made and seconded on the record; the committee voted, and the motion carried.

Ending: Staff will post the RFP and return to the committee with proposals and recommended options for additional equipment or installation methods.
