County updates multiple bridge projects; PennDOT-funded Meadows Road bridge on track for next year

County staff updated the committee on multiple bridge projects, including a PennDOT-led Meadows Road replacement scheduled for completion next year and several P3 bridge closeouts.
County staff provided a series of updates on bridge work across the county.
Bridge 15 on Meadows Road in Lower Saucon Township was bid last year by PennDOT and awarded to Kinsley Construction. Staff said extensive utility relocation work delayed early activity but Kinsley has started driving sheet piles for new pier footings; PennDOT’s schedule has the project on track for completion next year.
Bridge 74 on Douglasville Road at Jacobsburg State Park was a superstructure replacement completed last fall. County staff said the work replaced the existing superstructure with precast concrete box beams, installed new rock protection and guide rail, repaved, and rehabilitated the existing abutments; staff estimated the project cost at about $700,000.
Bridge 124 (one of the last P3 bridges) was substantially completed in early January by Krieger; crews returned to address a small number of temperature-related punch-list items. Bridge 101 on Hanoverville Road in Lower Nazareth Township had arch liners installed in its three barrels and was awaiting a paving window adjacent to a railroad; staff said paving is scheduled for mid-April, after which the county plans a final walkthrough and closeout of the P3 project.
The committee also discussed a bridge in Glendon. Staff said PennDOT is considering demolition and not replacement of the Glendon bridge and that demolition is complicated by about a dozen utilities attached to the structure and limited site access. A county staff member said PennDOT is in early phases of preliminary engineering for demolition and that Conrail has not yet been engaged.
