County nears completion of L-tier dorm renovation to create juvenile housing

County staff told the Capital Projects and Operations Committee that renovation of an existing dorm area in the L-tier to make it suitable for juvenile housing is nearly complete.

The work included replacing drop ceilings with drywall, installing new flooring, new security doors and frames, updated lighting and battery fixtures. Construction began in the fall; work is currently on punch-list items and has been delayed briefly by long lead times for the security door frames.

When asked about change orders, staff said only minor additional work was required. “We needed to add some additional access panels in the ceiling, but that was a very minor cost,” a county staff member said. The presenter said contractors are making final repairs and the project will be wrapped up shortly.
