Glynn County discusses budget season, GIS drone demos and possible AI features for new website

Glynn County Manager Bill Fallon described the county’s budget cycle and said department budget requests are being compiled as staff work toward a final proposal for the commissioners.

“Our Chief Financial Officer Tamara Munson does a great job of working with all the different departments… the courts, sheriff's office, board of elections,” Fallon said. He explained the county began the budget process in January and that public hearings and commissioner review follow the staff compilation and prioritization.

Fallon said county planning, zoning and GIS staff planned to demonstrate GIS capabilities and “maybe have a couple of their drones up” at a First Friday event to show mapping and assessment tools. He said GIS is useful for post‑storm damage assessment and that drone work complements field crews.

On technology, Fallon said the county’s IT department is evaluating artificial intelligence features for the county’s upcoming website expected “over the summer.” He described potential uses such as guiding people to the right services and answering basic questions, but indicated use would be limited to administrative tasks like presentations and public‑facing navigation rather than replacing staff.

Fallon also highlighted ongoing efforts in public works to prioritize drainage and said the department uses equipment and technology to improve efficiency. He framed these as budget priorities alongside personnel and capital requests and said final budget decisions rest with the commissioners once staff presents recommendations.

No formal budget vote or adoption occurred in the broadcast; Fallon described the process and timelines for public input and commissioner decision‑making.
