Lisa Greganus, Glynn County director of Recreation and Parks, said the department is entering a busy spring and summer season with youth sports, park improvements and seasonal hiring.
“We're serving about 1,700 young people with our sports programs this spring,” Greganus said on Good News Glenn. She said opening day at Mallory Park is scheduled for March 22 and that spring leagues for baseball, tee ball, softball and soccer are active.
On staffing, Greganus said the department hires about 55 seasonal workers to staff beaches, pools and site attendants for the summer season and that some positions remain open. “If folks are out there that are interested… hiring bonus, we're hiring,” she said.
Glynn County’s Blythe Island Regional Park was highlighted as a national recognition: Greganus said the 1,100‑acre park appeared on the cover of Family RVing Magazine and described it as a busy regional facility with an RV campground, primitive camping, kayaking, fishing and the inclusive playground opened the prior year.
The department also described operational preparations for higher tourist demand, including restroom maintenance, shoreline patrols and a sandbar safety patrol. Greganus explained that seasonal beach crews use utility vehicles to patrol for people who may be too far out on sandbars and to escort them back when tidal conditions could strand them.
Officials listed several upcoming capital projects at county parks: a trail/sidewalk at Denry Park on St. Simons, new batting cages at Ballard Park, fence replacement at Selden Park and a gym floor replacement at Selden Gym. No funding figures were provided on the broadcast.
The department emphasized a mix of community programs and regional tourism services and asked residents to check the county website for registration and hiring information.
