Speakers described Hamptman as a long‑serving school‑board member who championed programs that expanded academic opportunities (Cambridge program, SMA technical rehabilitation programs, senior programming and more) and who advocated for facilities expansions at the Miami Lakes K‑8 campus.
A council waiver of a procedural rules section was approved to allow the town to take the action at the same meeting; Vice Mayor Moreira said a letter would be drafted for council signatures and a formal resolution would appear on the consent calendar at the next meeting. The motion to forward the request to the school board passed by unanimous voice vote.
Public speakers in favor included students, neighborhood residents and former elected officials who credited Hamptman with programmatic improvements and increased opportunities for local students. The council said it would follow up with the school board in short order.
