Provo council approves three appointees to elected official compensation commission

The Provo City Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 11 work meeting to forward three names nominated for the city’s elected official compensation commission to the Human Resources department.
Council staff member Michael Sanders presented the nominees—David Shipley, David Wright and Michael Ann Gardner—and asked the council to make a motion to submit their names to HR for inclusion on the commission. A council member moved to accept the three nominees and the motion was seconded and approved by a 5–0 vote.
The council did not debate individual qualifications during the public portion of the meeting. The council’s action was limited to directing staff to advance the nominations to HR for whatever next steps the city’s personnel process requires.
Because the council’s vote was procedural—referring names to HR—the meeting record did not include an extended public comment period or additional staff analysis for the appointments. The nominees’ inclusion on the compensation commission will be subject to any internal HR processes required under city practice.
No referendum or follow-up vote on the nominees was recorded at the work meeting. The council moved on to other agenda items after the referral was made.
