Garrett elected Provo council chair; Whipple chosen vice chair in unanimous votes

At the start of its Jan. 14 meeting, the Provo City Council elected Gary Garrett as council chair and Rachel Whipple as vice chair. Both votes were unanimous.
Councilor Christiansen moved to elect Garrett as chair; the motion carried 7-0. Chair Catrice McKay nominated Rachel Whipple as vice chair; that motion also passed 7-0. Justin Harrison, a council staffer, reminded the council that city code requires the body to elect its chair and that a chair may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
The council indicated the leadership changes take effect immediately. Members offered brief remarks thanking the outgoing leadership and acknowledging time commitments for council leadership roles.
